Saltwater Aquarium Test Kits
Product Description

General Steps for Saltwater Aquarium Test Kits
1. Ammonia (NH₃/NH₄⁺) Test
Fill the test tube with 5 mL of aquarium water.Add 8 drops from Bottle #1 and 8 drops from Bottle #2.
Cap and shake for 5 seconds.
Wait 5 minutes, then compare the color to the chart.
Safe level: 0 ppm (any detectable ammonia is dangerous).
2. Nitrite (NO₂⁻) Test
Fill a clean test tube with 5 mL of water.Add 5 drops of the nitrite test solution.
Cap and shake, then wait 5 minutes.
Compare the color to the chart.
Safe level: 0 ppm (nitrite should be undetectable in a cycled tank).
3. Nitrate (NO₃⁻) Test
Fill the test tube with 5 mL of water.Add 10 drops from Bottle #1, then 10 drops from Bottle #2.
Cap and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
Wait 5 minutes, then compare the color.
Ideal level: <10 ppm (reef tanks), <30 ppm (fish-only).
4. pH Test
Add 3 drops of the pH test solution.
Cap and shake, then compare immediately.
Ideal range: 8.1–8.4 (for most saltwater tanks).
5. Alkalinity (KH/dKH) Test
Fill the test tube to the marked line with water.
Add the reagent drop by drop, counting until the color changes.
Multiply drops by the conversion factor (varies by brand).
Ideal range: 8–12 dKH (or 140–200 ppm).
6. Calcium (Ca²⁺) Test (For reef tanks)
Follow kit instructions (usually involves adding reagents and comparing colors).Ideal range: 380–450 ppm.
7. Magnesium (Mg²⁺) Test (For reef tanks)
Ideal range: 1250–1350 ppm.
8. Phosphate (PO₄³⁻) Test
Ideal level: <0.03 ppm (for reef tanks), <0.1 ppm (fish-only).
